Please note there are two trees that can be fatal to horses.
The two trees that can be fatal to Horses are Red Maple (Acer rebrum) and Wild Cherry (Nerium Oleander). The one plant is called Oleander (Nerium oleander).
Red Maple tree leaves can be fatal when ingested in a certain amount causes significant breakdown of red blood cells and is extremely difficult, expensive to treat and is usually unsuccessful. Horses find branches that are hanging over fences or that are blown into the pastures.
Wild Cherry trees leaves grown along a pasture fence line present a risk since even a few leaves blown in are hazardous. Cyanide is the toxic principle and if the toxin is ingested even in very small amounts can be fatal to Horse.
